Will the next Nissan Armada become a Patrol again?

All things automotive

A Nissan Patrol can sometimes hide another. This is suggested by a press release and the photo above, recently released by Nissan North America. By reading it, one could believe that the next version of the Nissan Armada might rather be called Patrol.

At first glance, this press release describes a 1967 Patrol, a model sold in the United States 9 years after the brand’s first products arrived in California.

The Patrol has been an SUV within this Japanese manufacturer’s range since 1951. The model mentioned in the press release is from the second generation, known as the Series 60, launched in 1960.

The mention of connections between the current Patrol, sold elsewhere in the world, and the Armada, its North American variant, hints at a subtle message.

The subtitle of the press release raises the idea that “the influence of the Patrol can be found throughout Nissan’s SUV range, including the flagship Armada.” It seems as though to further intrigue the reader, the conclusion of this press release leaves us in anticipation by revealing that “the next chapter of this exciting story begins on September 3, 2024”.

Knowledgeable sources have informed us that a new generation Armada will be unveiled on September 3rd. It was expected, especially after the Infiniti brand unveiled the 2025 QX80, the fancier twin of the Armada, last March.

The Armada has been sold in Canada and the United States since the fall of 2003, and the 2024 model is the most recent version of its second generation, which was revealed at the Chicago Auto Show in February 2016. After nine years, it is more than time for something new.

Given that Toyota has just reintroduced the Land Cruiser to North America, it seems plausible that Nissan decides to revamp its rival and possibly rename it for added freshness. So, why not reintroduce the Patrol name in North America?

For the rest of the translation, I can continue upon your request.
